Current: Freelance Marketo Email Engineer
Company: Location: Remote Published: 2026-10-19
Headquarters: Remote (US)
About the Role
As a Freelance Marketo Email Specialist, you'll build, test, and launch email programs in Marketo for a range of client brands. This is a hands-on, execution-only contract role with no leadership or management responsibilities. You'll take approved briefs and turn them into working programs, building responsive templates and modules, setting up smart lists and flows, and making sure every send goes out right the first time. You know Marketo well enough to spot a broken token, a misfired trigger, or a segmentation gap before it reaches a subscriber. You'll take direction from our internal team, get up to speed fast, and deliver accurate builds on schedule with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Build and launch email programs in Marketo, including one-off sends, nurture streams, engagement programs, and triggered campaigns.
Develop and maintain responsive email templates and modular components in HTML and CSS, using Marketo's template syntax, variables, and editable sections.
Set up smart lists, smart campaigns, flow steps, and segmentations that match the targeting and logic in the brief.
Use tokens, dynamic content, and snippets to personalize emails and keep programs easy to clone and reuse.
QA every email before launch: rendering across clients and devices (e.g. Litmus or Email on Acid), links, tokens, personalization fallbacks, and list logic.
Manage program structure, naming conventions, and folder organization so client instances stay clean and easy to navigate.
Build to the brief and requirements provided, and flag any gaps or errors in the request before they become problems in the send.
Communicate status, timelines, and blockers clearly with your internal point of contact.
Document builds and processes so other team members can pick up, update, or reuse the work.
Follow established Marketo, deliverability, and accessibility standards on every build.
Qualifications
Required
At least 3 years of hands-on experience building and deploying email campaigns in Marketo Engage.
Strong working knowledge of Marketo programs, smart lists, smart campaigns, tokens, snippets, and dynamic content.
Proficiency in HTML and CSS for email, including responsive and hybrid coding and Marketo template syntax.
Experience with email rendering and QA tools such as Litmus or Email on Acid.
A detail-oriented QA process that catches errors in logic, links, and personalization before launch.
Experience working across multiple clients or Marketo instances, adapting quickly to different setups and conventions.
Clear, proactive communication, including flagging risks early and giving accurate time estimates.
Ability to work independently, take direction well, and hit deadlines across overlapping requests.
Preferred
Marketo Certified Expert or Marketo Certified Associate.
Familiarity with email deliverability, authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), and list hygiene.
Experience with email accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG).
Experience with lead scoring, lifecycle programs, and Marketo–Salesforce CRM sync.
Experience with other marketing automation platforms (e.g. Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, Braze).
Agency or consulting experience.

The recent global supply chain crisis has put Flexport center stage as we continue to play a pivotal role in how goods move around the world. We are proud to have the support of the best investors in the game who believe in our mission, solutions and people. Ready to tackle global challenges that impact business, society, and the environment? Come join us.What you'll do
There is no MSSP and no tier-1 queue here. Detection & Response engineers own their detections end to end: you write them, you tune them, and your team is paged when they fire. The security team is spread across the globe with a follow-the-sun pager rotation so nobody is paged at 3am local.
The adversaries are real. The business is growing fast and the threat surface is growing with it. Defining the necessary telemetry is part of the job.
Detection engineering
Build and tune detections across endpoint, identity, SaaS, and cloud, treating them as software: version-controlled, peer-reviewed, and shipped through the same CI/CD practices the rest of engineering uses.
Track detection quality as measured quantities: coverage against MITRE ATT&CK, precision, time-to-detect. We don’t build-and-forget here.
Response & automation
Own incident response: triage, contain, remediate, and write the retrospective that turns the incident into a systemic fix.
Build automation that removes toil from investigations, and partner closely with the US-based team so context carries across time zones instead of getting lost at handoff.
Telemetry & partnership
Define telemetry requirements for new systems before they ship, working with infrastructure and product teams to close visibility gaps rather than discovering them during an incident.
Threat hunt proactively across the estate, converting hypotheses into either new detections or documented coverage.
You Should Have
Typically 5–8 years of experience in detection engineering, incident response, or threat hunting, with real hands-on time writing and tuning detections. We care more about what you've built than the exact number.
Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, or similar) and comfort writing production-grade detection and automation code.
Experience with a modern SIEM or detection pipeline (Panther, Elastic, Splunk, or similar). What matters is that you've shipped and tuned detection logic in production.
Practical incident response experience: you've led or played a major role in triaging and closing out real security incidents.
Nice to have
Experience treating detections as code with CI/CD, peer review, and staged rollout.
Experience defining telemetry contracts for systems before they ship, rather than retrofitting logging after an incident.
A track record of critically evaluating and verifying AI-assisted work - testing, source-checking, validation - rather than trusting agent output by default. If you haven’t already spotted the em dashes in this job description and already thought about where the hiring manager (hi!) has put hands on keyboard and compared that to where they let the LLM watermarks through, you might not be the right person for the job.
Familiarity with cloud-native and Kubernetes telemetry.
Experience with fraud or financial-crime detection patterns.
How we work
We stay closely aligned with teammates on other continents via Slack, video, and async docs.
We have the latest hardware and software, including frontier AI models on day one.
We're agile, but not dogmatic. Teams decide how they work best.
Why this role is special
You own your detections end to end, no MSSP, no tier-1 queue, no handing your work to someone else to triage.
The consequences here are physical, not abstract: a containment decision can stop a customs filing or freight actually moving, which makes the stakes concrete in a way a SaaS control plane rarely is.
You'll inherit a real, established estate with legacy telemetry gaps to close, genuinely underexplored surface area, not a well-mined problem.

Clover Health is investing in our fraud detection and investigation capabilities and is seeking a Director, AI-Enabled Fraud Prevention & Investigations to join our Legal department as a senior individual contributor. This hybrid role combines: (1) managing hands-on investigations of potential provider fraud with (2) building AI-powered tools and processes to make investigations more efficient and help catch potential future fraud earlier. You will develop and pilot new AI-enabled investigatory processes for Clover’s Medicare Advantage business, and own resulting investigations, in collaboration with Clover’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and other stakeholders.
This is a non-attorney role. You will work hand-in-hand with Clover’s lawyers and SIU to ensure that new investigatory processes you develop, and the resulting investigations, comply with Clover policies and regulatory requirements. Success in this role requires someone sharp, creative, and technically hands-on—someone who does not just use existing analytics tools but builds their own. That might mean writing a script to automate repetitive work, pulling apart a dataset when a standard report falls short, or working with an LLM until it produces something genuinely useful—all with the goal of finding smarter, more effective ways to investigate potential provider fraud.
As a Director, AI-Enabled Fraud Prevention & Investigations, you will:
Build Your Own Investigative Tooling: Use AI to write the queries, scripts, and prompts that turn millions of claim lines and/or medical record data into a prioritized list of leads. Prototype detection logic yourself rather than waiting on a roadmap, and hand off what works to data science and engineering to productionize. We expect you to be the person who builds v1.
Investigate Potential Fraud End-to-End With AI in the Loop: Own a portfolio of fraud investigations sourced using the tooling you develop, in collaboration with Clover’s SIU. Develop investigative plans, gather and analyze evidence (including claims data and medical records), and reach well-supported conclusions. Use LLMs and analytics to compress the parts of an investigation that have always been slow — reading unstructured data, triaging grievance narratives, and sizing exposure.
Build Defensible Documentation: Develop case files and memos that are factually complete, well-organized, and prepared with the evidentiary and procedural standards necessary for downstream enforcement, recoveries, or provider actions.
Collaborate Across Functions: Work with Clover's clinical, compliance, claims, payment integrity, provider relations, revenue operations, and SIU teams to gather information, validate findings, and translate investigative outcomes into operational improvements, provider education, and member impact.
Communicate Findings Clearly: Prepare concise written reports and oral briefings that translate complex investigative facts into clear narratives for senior leadership and other stakeholders.
Success in this role looks like:
In your first 90 days, you have embedded yourself as a trusted partner to both the Legal department and Clover’s SIU. You have built working relationships with key stakeholders across Clover's clinical, compliance, claims, payment integrity, revenue operations, and legal teams, and you have begun working through your initial portfolio of fraud investigations and ad hoc referrals.
By 6 months, you are independently managing a steady caseload of fraud investigations with consistently high-quality work product, in collaboration with SIU. You have a clear working rhythm with Legal and SIU, and you have built at least one working tool — a script, a notebook, a dashboard, a prompt.
By 12 months, you have a track record of strong investigations, successful recoveries and/or referrals, and effective cross-functional collaboration. Senior leaders across Clover view you as a trusted person to call when they have a hunch that something doesn't look right and want it examined.
You should get in touch if:
Knowledge of healthcare fraud schemes & investigative experience: You have experience in healthcare fraud investigations, program integrity, or SIU operations, ideally within Medicare Advantage or managed care. You understand healthcare fraud schemes and know how to use claims data, medical records, and provider documentation to build a defensible factual record.
You are AI-native and enjoy building things using LLMs: You can use LLMs to write SQL, Python, etc., to interrogate large claims and/or medical record datasets, automate investigative work, and prototype your own solutions rather than waiting for someone else to build them. We do not expect production-grade engineering or require formal technical training—we value demonstrated ability to build, ship, and showcase solutions that work.
Strong communication skills: You are a strong writer and communicator who can turn complex investigative findings into clear memos, referrals, and executive summaries, and you are comfortable building in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
Bonus points if:
You have built something people actually use—an internal tool, detection model, script, automation, or AI workflow that made a manual process better. We would rather see something scrappy and useful in production than something polished in a slide.
You have hands-on experience applying AI/ML to fraud, investigations, or compliance.
You have a J.D., legal training, or experience working alongside Legal, SIU, or compliance at a health plan.
You have industry certifications such as CFE, AHFI, or CHC.
Benefits Overview:
Financial Well-Being: Our commitment to attracting and retaining top talent begins with a competitive base salary and equity opportunities. Additionally, we offer a performance-based bonus program, 401k matching, and regular compensation reviews to recognize and reward exceptional contributions.
Physical Well-Being: We prioritize the health and well-being of our employees and their families by providing comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. Your health matters to us, and we invest in ensuring you have access to quality healthcare.
Mental Well-Being: We understand the importance of mental health in fostering productivity and maintaining work-life balance. To support this, we offer initiatives such as No-Meeting Fridays, monthly company holidays, access to mental health resources, and a generous flexible time-off policy. Additionally, we embrace a remote-first culture that supports collaboration and flexibility, allowing our team members to thrive from any location.
