About Edfinity
Edfinity is the category leader in courseware and assessment technology for higher-ed STEM. We're NSF-supported, bootstrapped, and built by a close-knit remote team of senior engineers. We're growing fast and leading the field in AI-powered courseware that moves the needle on educator productivity and student outcomes. Your work will reach hundreds of institutions, and you will help decide how it gets built.
How we work
We're fully remote, with team members distributed across the US, and with that comes personal flexibility and accountability.
AI agents produce most of our code. We move fast, but we temper velocity with quality and stability above all else.
Engineers frame the problems, direct the work, and are accountable for everything that ships. If you already work this way and have opinions about it, you'll feel at home.
Everyone has opportunities to work across different areas of the platform, and team members are expected to develop deep technical expertise over time. This is particularly important as we step away from hands-on coding.
We're a small team of collaborative senior engineers. Your opinion matters.
The pace of change is real. More than ever, we're continually evolving our tooling and workflows as LLMs become more capable.
What you’ll be doing
Our stack is Ruby on Rails, MongoDB, Elasticearch, ClickHouse, Redis/Sidekiq, and React.
Full-stack product development in areas like assessment authoring, delivery, and grading; educator and student-facing features; LMS integrations
LLM-powered features, from prompt architecture to auto-grading to eval infrastructure
Performance optimization and reliability refactoring to handle both day-to-day load and high-stakes spikes
Stewardship of a mature codebase: upgrades, migrations, and paying down technical debt methodically
Part-time technical support rotation. Customer happiness is extremely important to us.
What you'll need
8-15 years building and running scalable production web applications and services
Deep experience with Rails
Experience with web front-ends such as React
Recent experience in an SDLC revolving around the use of AI agents
Strong CS fundamentals in systems, data modeling, and complexity
Excellent communication hygiene, collaborative skills, and strong sense of self-direction.
Interest in a long-term seat on a close-knit team.
Authorization to work in the United States. We are not able to sponsor or transfer work visas at this time.
Compensation
$135,000-$195,000, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus, retirement plan, and PTO

About AutoGPT
At AutoGPT, we're building toward a future where AI agents do real work for people — not just answer questions, but take action, complete tasks, and move work forward.
Our mission is to democratize AI by making powerful digital assistants accessible and useful to everyone, regardless of technical background. We created one of the most-starred open-source projects on GitHub, and our hosted platform is now live and accepting paying customers.
We already have a large global audience and tens of thousands of branded search visitors every month. What we don't yet have is a proven, repeatable go-to-market motion.
That's what you'll find.
The Product
AutoPilot: an AI teammate that builds and runs working automations from a conversation.
AutoGPT Builder: a graph-based canvas for creating agents without coding.
AutoGPT Marketplace: discover and deploy ready-made agents.
Agent Library: manage, schedule, and monitor agents.
Try it in 60 seconds, no signup required: platform.agpt.co/tour/chat
The Role
Your mandate is to find, prove, and begin scaling a repeatable path from an ICP-fit prospect with an urgent job to an activated, retained AutoGPT customer.
You'll investigate and fix the constraint wherever it exists: ICP selection, positioning, proof, pricing, website conversion, checkout, onboarding, activation, lifecycle communication, product experience, or acquisition.
This isn't a role where you deliver recommendations to another marketing team. You'll personally research, write, build, launch, measure, and iterate, with direct access to the founders, product, engineering, and customer and funnel data.
What You'll Own
Establish reliable measurement from acquisition through purchase, activation, and retention.
Interview customers, non-buyers, churned users, and high-fit waitlist members.
Validate or disprove our ICP and use-case hypotheses.
Define the initial ICP, anti-ICP, JTBD, buying trigger, and value proposition.
Improve positioning, use-case pages, proof, checkout, and onboarding.
Help define and improve activation and time to value.
Launch segmented waitlist campaigns.
Run controlled paid-search tests around high-intent, non-branded problems.
Validate SEO opportunities before scaling content.
Test product-led social, YouTube, outreach, or partnerships where evidence supports them.
Work directly with product and engineering on funnel and activation improvements.
Maintain a prioritized experiment backlog with hypotheses, costs, results, and decisions.
Provide concise weekly reporting: one async memo and one 30-minute decision meeting.
Protect and elevate the AutoGPT brand throughout.
What Success Looks Like
Within 10 business days:
A reliable view of the funnel, including qualified traffic and meaningful product activation.
Evidence explaining the biggest current drop-offs.
Customer and high-fit non-buyer interviews completed.
Initial improvements or experiments already live.
Numeric targets agreed for the remainder of the contract.
By the end of the engagement:
ICP and use-case hypotheses validated or rejected.
Qualified conversion and/or activation and retention improved.
Acquisition sources that produce genuinely valuable customers understood.
The beginnings of a repeatable acquisition + activation motion — or compelling evidence identifying and addressing a more fundamental constraint.
A documented growth operating system and clear recommendation for what comes next.
The primary outcome isn't more traffic. It's more ICP-fit customers who successfully use AutoGPT and remain customers.
Who We're Looking For
You've personally operated in an early-stage product-led B2B or prosumer SaaS environment — perhaps as a first or second growth hire, founding marketer, hands-on growth lead, product-growth operator, or former founder.
You can demonstrate:
Relevant 0-to-1 growth results, including the starting baseline.
Exactly what you personally did — real pages, emails, ads, onboarding flows, dashboards, or research.
Strong customer-research and product-marketing judgment.
Analytical self-sufficiency across attribution, billing, and product data.
Experience improving onboarding, activation, or retention.
Ability to write and ship landing pages, emails, ads, and lifecycle communication.
Hands-on paid-search and experimentation experience.
Excellent written English and strong brand judgment.
Ability to work autonomously and communicate concisely.
Experience with AI, automation, developer tools, no-code products, or open-source communities is useful, but evidence that you've solved this kind of commercial problem matters more.
This Is Not
An adviser-only fractional CMO role.
A strategy-deck engagement.
A pure paid-acquisition role.
An SEO content-production contract.
A social-media management role.
An agency account-management role.
A position for someone who needs a full design, analytics, and marketing team before shipping.
Agency applications aren't suitable. We want the individual who will personally do the work.
Why AutoGPT?
You'll own the commercial growth problem at a pivotal moment: a famous brand, a live product, an existing audience, and a genuinely open playing field.
You'll have direct access to the founders, fast decisions on experiments, and no approval bureaucracy for agreed reversible tests.
We're a small, kind, globally distributed team that values empathy, autonomy, and shipping. What you prove during this engagement can become the company's long-term growth engine.

We'll ask for:
Two relevant examples of early-stage growth work, including the starting position, problem, your personal contribution, what you shipped, results, and what didn't work.
An example where an apparent acquisition problem turned out to be a different funnel, product, or positioning problem.
What you'd need access to in your first week.
Your availability, time zone, day rate, and number of other active clients.
A short recording after trying AutoGPT, covering the biggest unknown you'd investigate, the first metric you'd establish, and one thing you'd deliberately avoid doing prematurely.
We assess candidates on relevant evidence, analytical judgment, hands-on execution, customer and product-marketing ability, brand judgment, and autonomy.
