RouteThis is on a mission to revolutionize technical support.  We build AI-powered solutions that help Internet Service Providers and Smart Home companies solve connectivity and WiFi problems—before the subscriber  ever needs to call.   Our customers already benefit from our SaaS solutions today and we aim to magnify that value by building agentic qualities into our solutions.  As we pivot our platform to be AI-first, we’re looking for a Senior AI Developer who thrives at the intersection of applied machine intelligence and practical engineering.

What You'll Do
  • Build agentic AI systems that solve real-world connectivity and support problems through planning, tool use, and multi-step reasoning.
  • Lead the effort in evaluating LLM usage for safety, correctness, hallucination, contextual relevance, and performance—ensuring the right model is used for the job.
  • Design robust prompts and workflows to support voice and text-based interactions across a wide variety of customer environments.
  • Guide and mentor other engineers, elevating the team’s ability to build agentic systems through design reviews, pairing, and shared tooling.
  • Partner with product and CX teams to deeply understand customer problems and drive intelligent solutions.
  • Prototype quickly to learn what works—and scale what does.

  • What You Bring
  • Hands-on experience building and shipping AI-powered products.
  • Familiarity in LLM evaluation techniques: tool correctness, grounding, hallucination detection, prompt tuning, safety, etc.
  • Understanding of RAG, multi-modal inputs, prompt engineering, and customer-specific customization.

  • Experience working in startup or high-speed product environments, where ownership and iteration are key.
  • Proven experience designing and building robust, scalable software systems.
  • Experience using AI developer tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot, Surfboard) as part of your day-to-day workflow—and a willingness to share those practices to uplift the entire team.
  • A natural coach and mentor—someone who makes the team better by sharing insights, patterns, and feedback.
  • Voice interface or voice UX experience is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with modern dev stacks (e.g., AWS, Python, Node.js, React) and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Not The Right Fit If...
  • You’re focused on building AI models or frameworks from scratch.
  • Your background is purely ML ops, backend pipelines, or foundational model training.
  • You thrive in large, structured enterprise environments with narrow scopes.
  • Our Stack

We use AWS (EKS, Lambda, Dynamo, RDS), OpenAI, Snowflake, Node.js, Python, React, Android, and iOS. You don’t need to know it all—but you should be comfortable picking up new tools fast.

    • Has a knack for implementing processes, technologies, and solutions for a fast-paced environment.

At Discourse, the ability to communicate well in writing is paramount. We use our own software, Discourse, for most communication and most of your interaction with customers and team members will be in writing

In order to live these values, we look for folks who are:

    • Detail-oriented, proactive, and organized
    • Able to make decisions quickly and communicate effectively
    • Work well independently and remotely
    • Kind to their co-workers

    Senior Software Developer

    Company: observablehq
    Location: USA
    Category: Software Development
    Published: 2025-07-10

Observable is a collaborative data platform that helps teams explore, visualize, and communicate with data—faster and more effectively. At the heart of Observable is a powerful notebook environment that combines code, visualizations, and rich documentation in a single, shareable workspace. Now, with the introduction of canvases, Observable is expanding beyond notebooks to offer a new, flexible way to build interactive, data-driven explorations and reports. Canvases empower users to arrange data, charts, annotations, and filters in freeform layouts, making it easier than ever to tell compelling stories with live data.

We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to join our small engineering team. You need experience working in professional web development, but we are open to candidates with more backend experience or more frontend experience. With canvases, many of the features you work on will be new, not updates, rewrites, or maintenance. You’ll have to do technical design and architecture as well as coding. Our work spans the full stack from the API (TypeScript, Node, Postgres) and frontend (TypeScript, React, Nextjs) to dev tooling and infrastructure (Cloudflare edge workers, Heroku, S3, Docker).

You don’t have to have experience with all that, but you have to be excited about learning what you don’t know! Since we’re a small team, you’ll have to get going fast, and we don’t have much in the way of formal training — but everyone is happy to help and pair-program all the time, and excited to teach and learn from you.

    What you will do
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software.
  • Be part of a close-knit engineering team that ships new code into production multiple times a day.
  • Write code, create reliable and sustainable systems, and develop prototypes quickly.
  • Take initiative, prioritize and manage workloads, and meet project deadlines.
  • Empathize with our users and nurture the quality of their experience as much as you do the quality of our code.
  • Be part of an on-call rotation that includes every engineer.
  • Work well with a team of diverse skills (engineering, design, product, marketing).

  • What you will bring
  • 6+ years of experience of feature development across a frontend and backend stack.
  • Proficiency with JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Good computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software design with sound investigative and debugging skills.
  • Familiarity with open source, cloud, or application platforms.
  • Ability to write readable, maintainable, self-documenting or well-documented code to solve complex problems with simple, elegant solutions.
  • About Observable
Observable is a remote-first company building tools that help people think with data. We’re a curious, collaborative team that values thoughtful communication, fast iteration, and the craft of building great software. If that sounds like your kind of environment, we’d love to hear from you.

Thank you for your interest 🙏 We can’t wait to hear from you.
