WALTER: Principal Product Designer
Company: Location: Remote Published: 2026-07-22
Headquarters: Remote
URL: http://gowalter.co
Role Description
Dropbox’s Design team is looking for a Principal Designer to help define the future of content activation for Dropbox customers. In this role, you will help lead the design vision and execution for Dropbox’s portfolio of products and services.
As a Principal Designer, you will shape how AI helps customers get their jobs done faster, better, and with greater confidence. Dropbox holds the content, context, and collaboration that power our customers’ most important work. This role is about designing AI experiences that activate that content in useful, intuitive, and trustworthy ways, helping customers find clarity, make progress, and take action without adding complexity or friction.
We believe AI should sharpen our customers, not replace their judgment. You will be responsible for creating experiences where AI acts as a thoughtful partner: surfacing what matters, reducing busywork, connecting ideas, and helping people move from information to action, while keeping customers in control. The best experiences will feel elegant, precise, and almost invisible; AI should make Dropbox more powerful without making it feel more complicated.
This role requires a designer with exceptional craft, strong product judgment, and the ability to operate across strategy, systems, and execution. You will translate emerging AI capabilities into high-trust, “it just works” product experiences, while raising the quality bar for the broader design organization. You will also help transform the team into AI-enabled designers, setting new standards for how we use AI in our own design process, how we prototype, how we explore, and how we deliver customer value.
You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Marketing, and Design leadership to shape not only what we build, but how we build it. This is a critical role for Dropbox’s AI-first, multi-product future, and for defining the next generation of product experiences that help customers do their best work.
Responsibilities
Define and drive the design vision for Dropbox’s broader multi-product ecosystem that helps customers find, understand, activate, and act on the content already living in Dropbox.
Design AI-powered experiences that make customers sharper and more effective without replacing their judgment. Ensure AI feels like a trusted partner: reducing friction, surfacing what matters, accelerating decisions, and keeping customers in control.
Lead ambiguous, high-impact product areas from strategic framing through execution, translating emerging AI capabilities into simple, elegant, high-trust experiences that feel powerful without becoming clunky, noisy, or difficult to use.
Set an exceptionally high craft bar across interaction design, information architecture, systems thinking, prototyping, content, visual quality, and implementation. Make the product feel precise, coherent, and unmistakably Dropbox.
Partner deeply with Product, Engineering, Research, Marketing, and Design leadership to shape strategy, prioritize the highest-impact opportunities, align teams, and drive outcomes with urgency and quality.
Raise the bar for the design organization by mentoring designers, improving critique, modeling excellent AI product design, and helping the team become more AI-enabled in how they explore, prototype, evaluate, and ship work.
Requirements
12+ years of product design experience, with a strong track record leading complex, ambiguous, high-impact product initiatives from vision through launch at scale.
A portfolio that demonstrates Principal-level craft, product judgment, systems thinking, customer empathy, and the ability to ship experiences that customers understand, trust, and love.
Exceptional executional range, with the ability to move fluidly from long-term strategy and narrative to detailed flows, interaction models, prototypes, edge cases, content, and implementation quality.
Proven ability to influence senior cross-functional partners, create alignment through clear storytelling, and drive product direction in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
Strong ability to translate emerging capabilities into simple, useful, intuitive product experiences that reduce friction, preserve customer agency, and help people get meaningful work done.
A collaborative, low-ego leadership style, with a track record of mentoring designers, raising standards, improving critique, and helping teams produce better work than they could have produced on their own.
Experience designing end-to-end experiences across multiple products, surfaces, or platforms, with a strong ability to create coherence across complex user journeys.
A portfolio that shows a deeply opinionated design sensibility, where the candidate’s taste, principles, and product philosophy are visible in the work itself.
A demonstrated ability to simplify complex systems, workflows, or mental models into experiences that feel premium, obvious, and easy to use.
Preferred Qualifications
Deep experience designing customer-facing products in emerging or complex domains such as AI, search, knowledge work, productivity, collaboration, enterprise software, or multi-product ecosystems.
Experience designing or simplifying agentic experiences, agent management, automation, orchestration, permissions, delegation, or similarly complex product metaphors where users need clarity, control, and trust.
A strong point of view on how AI can augment human judgment, activate customer content, reduce busywork, and make customers sharper without making the experience feel clunky, opaque, or over-automated.
A strong point of view on design craft in the AI era, including how designers should use AI to increase creativity, speed, quality, and customer understanding.
Durable Skills
AI fluency means using these tools to amplify human judgment, not replace it. We believe people with these skills will thrive as work and technology continue to evolve:
Awareness: Understand yourself and others.
Judgment: Evaluate information and make decisions in complex situations.
Adaptability: Learn, adjust, and stay effective through change.
Connection: Communicate, collaborate, and build trust.

Airtable: Senior Solutions Architect- West Coast
Company: Location: Remote Published: 2026-07-22
Headquarters: Remote-US
Airtable is the no-code app platform that empowers people closest to the work to accelerate their most critical business processes. More than 500,000 organizations, including 80% of the Fortune 100, rely on Airtable to transform how work gets done.Work is being redesigned, and Airtable is built for that moment: the same platform humans run their most critical workflows on is where agents now operate alongside them. Professional Services is where that redesign happens.
The Senior Solutions Architect leads it. You hear a customer describe their problem and see the organizational design question underneath it. You bring a point of view early, design solutions that hold through delivery, and stay accountable for outcomes, not just recommendations. Depending on the engagement, you may own solution design, contribute to the build, lead delivery coordination, or all three.
What you'll do
Push to recommendations faster. Within the first engagements you are shaping direction and identifying where business processes need to change, not just mapping requirements. Enhanced handoffs and early POVs are how we create value at enterprise scale.
Recommend changes beyond the platform when the engagement calls for it: process redesign, workflow ownership, how work moves between teams and between humans and agents.
Design end-to-end solutions that translate existing enterprise workflows into architectures where humans and agents operate together.
Identify where agentic workflows create real leverage and design the handoffs that make them reliable in production.
Navigate organizational complexity: build coalitions, manage stakeholders with competing priorities, and find the internal champions who sustain momentum.
Create reusable solution patterns and reference architectures that extend impact beyond individual engagements.
Stay involved through delivery. Adapt the design as customer reality evolves. Hold accountability for what gets built.
Who you are
AI is embedded in how you work, not something you reach for on select tasks. You use AI tools to compress your own output: generating solution blueprints, structuring discovery, drafting documentation, prototyping automation logic. You have designed agentic workflows in practice, making decisions about model selection, prompt architecture, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and where AI should not be trusted without oversight. You walk into a customer engagement and immediately identify where agentic systems create leverage versus where they introduce risk the customer isn't ready to manage.
You have a business process transformation background. You have led engagements where the deliverable was a change in how an organization operates, not just a software deployment.
7+ years in client-facing delivery, consulting, or enterprise transformation, with a track record of leading complex engagements at VP and C-suite level.
Professional services or management consulting background. You know what it means to deliver to a statement of work and be accountable for outcomes.
You communicate across the full room: C-level sponsors, technical stakeholders, and the business SMEs whose daily work is changing. You know what each audience needs to hear and how to earn their trust.
You hear what a customer is not saying as clearly as what they are, and you bring a point of view on what they should do, not just what the options are.
Enterprise scale: thousands of users, multi-business unit complexity, compliance and security requirements that shape what can be built and when.

About Gusto
At Gusto, we're on a mission to grow the small business economy. We handle the hard stuff — payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR — so owners can focus on their craft and their customers. With teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support more than 500,000 small businesses nationwide and are building a workplace that reflects the people we serve.
All full-time employees receive competitive base pay, benefits, and equity (RSUs) — because everyone who helps build Gusto should share in its success. Offer amounts are determined by role, level, and location. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy.
AI is a fundamental part of how work gets done at Gusto. We expect all team members to actively engage with AI tools relevant to their role and grow their fluency as the technology evolves. AI experience requirements vary by role and will be assessed during the interview process.About the Role:
As a Staff Engineer on the Developer Productivity - AI Developer Tools team, you will be the architectural anchor shaping the AI platform that accelerates engineering across Gusto. You will redefine how our entire engineering organization builds, tests, and ships software by architecting a highly secure, context-aware, "AI-native" development lifecycle.
Your mission is to eliminate developer friction through AI tools, multi-agent systems, and intelligent automation. Whether you are building bespoke internal coding assistants, automating sprawling codebase refactors, or deploying AI to self-heal CI/CD pipelines, your work will directly multiply the velocity of hundreds of builders. Help us drive developer productivity by building the next generation of AI tools.
About the Team:
The AI Developer Tools team is a specialized team within Developer Productivity. We believe AI is the next great leap in software craftsmanship. Our goal is to provide every builder at Gusto with a suite of "superpowers" tools that deeply understand our codebase and absorb operational toil so engineers can focus on creative problem-solving. We treat our fellow engineers as our primary customers, prioritizing developer experiences that are not just powerful, but absolutely delightful to use.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
Architect AI Core Infrastructure: Design, scale, and maintain the internal platform and APIs that integrate LLMs into the developer workflow, with a heavy focus on autonomous agents, custom retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and smart context-delivery systems.
Drive Technical Leadership & Vision: Establish engineering best practices for building with AI at Gusto, including robust evaluation frameworks (evals), guardrails for code safety, and strategies for optimizing model latency and token spend.
Collaborate & Evangelize: Partner closely with product engineering teams to uncover systemic friction points, and collaborate with core Infrastructure and Security teams to ensure all AI tooling is scalable, compliant, and secure.
Optimize Feedback Loops: Identify and eliminate critical bottlenecks in the local-to-production lifecycle at scale across Gusto.
Maintain Enterprise Reliability: Treat AI infrastructure with production-grade rigor. Monitor system health, diagnose complex integration or networking issues, and mitigate model drift or downtime.
Here’s what we're looking for:
8+ Years of Systems Expertise: You are a seasoned engineer who is highly comfortable navigating massive, complex codebases and delivering production-grade, distributed software.
Production AI Experience: You have a proven track record of moving AI beyond prototypes. You possess a deep understanding of prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG architectures, and orchestrating multi-agent workflows.
Developer-First Mindset: You are passionate about Developer Experience and Productivity. You intuitively understand what makes an internal tool frictionless, fast, and empowering for other engineers.
Strategic Execution: You don't just build wrappers; you think deeply about data privacy, security, cost management, and systemic reliability when deploying AI solutions.
Exceptional Communication: You can seamlessly translate bleeding-edge AI capabilities into clear, actionable infrastructure strategies, mentoring junior engineers and aligning cross-functional stakeholders along the way.
Working as a Team: You work across team boundaries and bring other teams and groups along with you towards our strategic vision.
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $180,000/yr to $200,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, $220,000/yr to $245,000/yr for San Francisco, New York & Seattle. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. This includes non-office days for hybrid employees.

AI experience requirements vary by role and will be assessed during the interview process.About Design at Gusto
Design at Gusto is made up of over 80 creative, collaborative people who care deeply about our mission to empower small businesses and their employees. We're a cross-functional group that is always looking for opportunities to build understanding and empathy for the people who use Gusto. We don't care much about swim lanes and though we care deeply about quality and craft, we are never precious about it. We work closely with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to design, build, and ship experiences that make a real difference. We believe great design can make hard things possible, even delightful.
We are building an AI-native design organization — and we mean that seriously. We're looking for designers who are already working this way: using AI to prototype ideas quickly, shorten customer feedback loops, and ship quality UX directly to customers. This isn't a future aspiration — it's how we work now, and it's changing what the design role looks like at Gusto and across the industry.
About the role
Gusto is building the financial platform that small businesses will rely on for the next decade, and AI is at the center of that. From how businesses move money, to how Gusto manages risk and verifies identity, AI is changing what's possible across every part of the experience. The design challenge is defining what it looks like to build those products right: not just faster and smarter, but genuinely trustworthy for the hundreds of thousands of businesses and employees who depend on them.
As the Sr. Staff Product Designer, Finance, you'll set the UX vision and strategy across four interconnected product areas: Business Money, Consumer Money, Payments, and Risk. Your role is to see what individual teams can't, identifying opportunities and systemic gaps that span the full financial experience, and to drive the work that makes Gusto's financial products feel clear, trustworthy, and empowering for hundreds of thousands of small businesses and their employees. Nobody has fully figured out what AI-first financial UX looks like at scale. This role is the chance to define it at Gusto.
Your work will span the full scope: defining a long-term UX vision that connects financial and trust experiences across teams, identifying and driving high-impact opportunities that no single pod could tackle alone, and shaping product strategy alongside product directors and engineering leaders. You'll step in as a direct IC on the highest-priority projects, develop other designers, and contribute platform patterns that scale beyond the Money and Risk teams.
About the team
The Money team builds the financial products that help small businesses and their employees move, manage, and access money—from the tools owners use to run their business finances, to the financial benefits available to their teams. As Gusto deepens its financial ecosystem, this team sits at the center of making money movement faster, simpler, and more empowering for hundreds of thousands of small businesses and the people who work for them.
The Risk team is the trust layer that makes all of it possible. They build the systems that protect customers and Gusto from fraud and financial exposure, and the identity infrastructure that determines how customers verify who they are and how they access Gusto's financial products. It's foundational work: quiet when it's working, critical when it's not.
Together, these two teams own one of the broadest and most consequential design scopes at Gusto.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
Set the UX vision and strategy across the Money and Risk teams, connecting the dots across multiple pods and ensuring a cohesive experience throughout the platform.
Identify and drive high-impact design opportunities across the Money and Risk teams, spotting what individual pods can't see from inside their area, and bringing the right partners along to pursue them.
Influence product strategy, roadmap priorities, and team OKRs across Money and Risk through a design lens—operating as a senior design co-owner alongside product directors and engineering leaders.
Define what AI-first financial UX looks like at Gusto, including how to represent uncertainty clearly, surface errors gracefully, preserve user agency when AI recommendations are wrong, and build trust across consequential automated decisions.
Own how the Money and Risk teams build and share customer understanding: setting learning priorities, synthesizing insights across pods, and ensuring customer knowledge consistently informs direction rather than sitting siloed within individual teams.
Shape and raise the quality bar for experiences across the Money and Risk teams through hands-on design work, setting direction, and ensuring what ships reflect a high standard of craft. Step in as a direct IC on specific projects when necessary.
Develop other designers on Money and Risk through coaching, critique, and structured mentorship, acting as a force multiplier, not just a strong individual contributor.
Champion and evolve Gusto's design system and platform standards through your product work, contributing patterns and frameworks that scale beyond Money and Risk.
Here’s what we're looking for:
10+ years of Product Design experience, with a track record of leading design direction across multiple teams, pods, or product domains simultaneously, not just a single-product or single-pod context.
You've designed for high-trust, high-stakes experiences where errors have real consequences and clarity is non-negotiable (e.g. payments, risk, compliance, healthcare, or similar). Fintech or financial services background is a plus.
You've shaped product strategy at the domain or portfolio level alongside product directors and engineering leaders, not just executed within a single product scope.
You have a high bar for craft and stay hands-on, prototyping, iterating, and shipping alongside strategy, not just advising from above. You raise the bar for the designers around you through coaching, critique, and mentorship.
You advance experience architectures and service models that span multiple teams, identifying systemic opportunities and organizational barriers, and driving changes that improve coherence and outcomes at scale.
You thrive in ambiguity, lead through influence across teams, and are skilled at anticipating organizational friction, structuring how design work is coordinated across multiple teams to maximize impact and reduce drag.
You actively use AI in your own design practice and can direct others to do the same, evaluating AI-generated outputs critically, knowing when to override or course-correct, and raising the quality bar on AI-assisted work across the teams you support.
You have a point of view on how AI is changing product design, and you've acted on it. You can articulate what you've learned and where you think it's going.
At Gusto, we strive to provide rewards that empower employees to achieve their financial and personal goals. We offer competitive compensation packages with a strong emphasis on equity based compensation (ownership in Gusto). To learn more about Gusto’s compensation philosophy and benefits offerings please view our Total Rewards Approach page.
Our cash compensation range for this role is $172,000/yr to $215,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $202,000/yr to $253,000/yr in San Francisco, Seattle & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
