Track it Forward: Lead Developer — Rebuild, Modernize, & Scale (Social Good SaaS, Remote)

Company Company not specified

Location not specified Published
Job description
Headquarters: Oakland, CA URL: https://www.trackitforward.com We are looking for a lead developer to do a greenfield rebuild of our legacy SaaS app, modernize our mobile apps, and lead the tech effort to scale our app.  You will help choose the language, build the technical foundation, work with our product manager to rebuild the app, and migrate all customers over. About Track it Forward Track it Forward is the leading volunteer time-tracking application for nonprofits and schools. For 15 years, we’ve helped thousands of organizations mobilize volunteers and track over 30 million hours. We are a profitable, bootstrapped team of 4 focused on great work-life balance, high-impact work, and a fun, puzzle-loving culture (daily crosswords, monthly virtual escape rooms, and annual retreats).  We are not a VC-funded startup. We grew organically, stayed profitable, and prioritize high-quality work and personal fulfillment without growth-at-all-costs pressure. The team is led by the original founder and developer. The Modernization Strategy This is a structured, phased "small bang" migration—not a high-risk cutover or a strangler-fig migration. You will build a parallel greenfield system, extract legacy components step-by-step, and migrate customers over incrementally tenant-by-tenant while keeping operations running smoothly. Current Tech: Drupal 6 architecture hosted on Pantheon, paired with two Ionic/Capacitor mobile apps. Your Scope: Complete ownership of the technical architecture. You will partner with our product manager, establish engineering processes, and lead the rebuild from scratch. Modern AI practices:  We want you to be on the cusp of AI workflows while also balancing human guardrails to produce quality code. Team Structure: You will be our sole developer in the short term, taking full technical helm as we scale. Target Stack & Responsibilities Core Tech Stack: Core backend/frontend rebuild focused on Python/Django, Laravel, or React. You will make the final architectural call with input from the CEO/founder. Database & Storage Extraction: Deconstruct our legacy Drupal 6 / MySQL schema into a clean, domain-driven PostgreSQL database, and offload 100GB+ of media files to AWS S3 or Cloudflare R2. Security & Isolation: Implement application-layer field-level encryption (AES-256 for PII, Bcrypt/Argon2id for passwords) and build zero-trust dev environments so contractors never handle production user data. CI/CD & Documentation: Establish automated testing pipelines, clean API contracts, and clear runbooks so the codebase remains maintainable long-term. Mobile App Maintenance: Maintain and update our two Ionic/Capacitor mobile apps using AI coding tools. Mobile is a small fraction of the overall role—you just need to leverage AI to keep them functional without being a native mobile expert. Candidate Qualifications Pre-AI Engineering Foundation: 5+ years of core software engineering and architectural experience established before generative AI existed. You hold strong first-principles opinions on database normalization and system patterns. Proven Migration Experience: You have successfully architected and led at least one legacy monolith migration. You know what inputs and scope decisions keep momentum going. Modernized AI Velocity: You actively use AI tools to multiply output, but retain strict architectural control, unit testing discipline, and manual code review standards. Location & Remote Flexibility US W-2 Tax Residency Required: You must be legally authorized to work in the US and maintain primary US tax residency (for payroll, contracts, and legal/tax compliance). Travel-Friendly: We are 100% remote. As long as your primary legal/tax home remains in the US, you are welcome to travel or digital nomad—provided you can consistently hit our core sync hours. Core Sync Hours: Mandatory availability from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST for daily team syncs and real-time collaboration. Flexible hours outside this window. Compensation & Benefits Base Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 / year (commensurate with experience) Benefits: 401(k) w/ company match, Health Insurance, vacation, PTO, and holdiays Culture: High autonomy, direct project ownership, and zero venture-capital growth pressure How to Apply To filter out automated spam: include the most authentically human, non-AI reason why this specific role resonates with you.  Specifically include a short Loom video of you in the “Why should we choose you over any one else?” question.  This isn’t required but will sure stand out.  Be authentic, no need to do crazy rehearsals, just be you.   To apply: https://weworkremotely.com/remote-jobs/track-it-forward-lead-developer-rebuild-modernize-scale-social-good-saas-remote

The Role We're growing, and that means adding engineering leadership capacity to support new initiatives. You'll lead cross-functional delivery teams of 4-5 engineers, reporting to our Head of Engineering. Your job is to make sure your team ships reliably, grows professionally, and doesn't become a bottleneck as LawnStarter scales into new service verticals. This is a people-first role. If your identity as an EM is primarily technical - if you'd rather review architecture than develop an underperformer - this isn't the right fit. If you're the manager who knows what every person on your team needs to grow, who handles conflict directly, and who can articulate team performance in metrics, keep reading. What makes this role different: - You'll own both delivery AND people outcomes - neither can be delegated - Distributed team across time zones, so async leadership and written communication matter as much as meetings - We move fast and actually ship - you'll feel the difference between a team that's humming and one that's stuck - AI-forward is not a buzzword here - we expect you to lead your team on how to use it, not just follow along What You'll Own - People development: Concrete growth plans for every IC on your team - not just the struggling ones. You know where each person is going and what it takes to get there. - Delivery: Your team ships on cadence with predictable quality. You surface risk early, manage scope, and don't miss commitments without warning. - Team health: Conflict gets addressed directly. Underperformers are managed with a clear process. Top performers are protected and developed. - Cross-functional partnership: You're the interface between your team and Product, Design, and other engineering teams. Decisions get made, not stalled. - Technical direction: Close enough to the work to weigh in on system design and catch architectural risks. Not so close that you're in the weeds instead of removing blockers. - AI adoption: You're actively introducing AI tools and workflows into how your team operates - code review, documentation, sprint planning, debugging. You set the pace, not follow it. Problems to Solve Building people leadership depth as the team scales LawnStarter is expanding into new service verticals quickly. That means new headcount, new complexity, and more pressure on EMs to develop the next generation of senior engineers and tech leads - not just ship features. We need an EM who's done this before, not one who's figuring it out. Managing distributed teams without losing culture or accountability Our engineering team spans multiple time zones and countries. Async communication, remote 1:1s, and distributed sprint ceremonies are the norm - not a workaround. An EM who needs daily in-person proximity to lead effectively won't thrive here. Turning delivery consistency into a competitive advantage We have product-market fit and real momentum. The constraint now is shipping reliably enough to compound on that momentum. Your team's velocity and predictability directly affects LawnStarter's ability to launch new services and capture market share. Orchestrating cross-functional delivery from roadmap to release An EM here is the connective tissue between Product, Design, and specialist functions - quality engineering, architecture, and security - from estimation through delivery. The hard part isn't running any one of those conversations well; it's running all of them in parallel without becoming the bottleneck they route through. We need an EM who can hold business value and technical soundness in view at once and make the tradeoff calls - not one who stalls when Product wants speed, Security wants rigor, and Architecture wants the durable answer. Turning AI adoption into throughput without sacrificing craftsmanship We're not experimenting with AI on the margins. Claude Code, spec-driven development, and AI-assisted review are becoming default workflows here - and we track adoption seriously. We need an EM who can turn "the team uses AI" into measurable throughput without letting quality slip, with real opinions about where AI helps and where it quietly creates debt. What Success Looks Like (Year 1) - Every engineer on your team has a documented growth plan within 60 days - and you can speak to it from memory - Your team ships its committed scope on cadence within 90 days - Zero surprise departures - you know your retention risks and are actively working them - Underperformance is addressed directly and documented, not deferred - The Head of Engineering trusts your team's commitments because you've proven they're reliable - Your team is visibly more AI-enabled than when you joined - new tools adopted, old manual tasks automated, engineers unblocked faster Requirements Who You Are Deeply AI-integrated, not just AI-aware. You've gone well past "I use ChatGPT to write emails." Your engineers expect you to bring new AI workflows to the team - you've used Claude to accelerate code review, built prompts that help engineers write sharper tickets, or led your team's adoption of Copilot in the development workflow. When you see a task eating team time, your first instinct is to figure out if AI can handle it. You're actively experimenting, sharing what works, and setting the pace on AI adoption for your team - not following someone else's lead. This is unlikely to be a good fit if your AI usage stops at occasional prompting, if you're still evaluating whether the tools are worth the learning curve, or if you'd describe yourself as "AI-curious" rather than AI-native. A people developer, not just a delivery manager. You can give concrete examples of career growth plans you've built, hard conversations you've had, and underperformers you've managed through a structured process. You spend your 1:1 time on people, not status updates. This is unlikely to be a good fit if your management examples are mostly about process improvements or shipping milestones - or if you tend to blame team outcomes on the engineers rather than the environment you built. Remote-native. You've led full-remote teams before - not just as a workaround during COVID, but as a default. You know how to build trust without shared physical space, how to run async decision-making, and how to keep distributed engineers from feeling isolated. This is unlikely to be a good fit if you haven't managed a fully remote team in a leadership position, or if you feel like remote work is harder than in-person management. Direct in conflict. When there's tension on the team - between engineers, between engineering and product, between a team member's performance and what's expected - you address it directly and quickly. You don't let it simmer. This is unlikely to be a good fit if you've left roles or situations because of unresolved conflict, or if your conflict resolution examples are mostly about "creating space for dialogue" without resolution. Data-driven about people and delivery. You can articulate your team's performance in metrics - not just vibes. You track velocity, retention risk, and IC growth, and you use that data to make decisions. This is unlikely to be a good fit if your answers to performance questions are mostly common-sense observations without examples tied to specific numbers or outcomes. Technically credible. You stay close enough to the code to earn your engineers' respect - code reviews, architectural input, helping debug under pressure. You don't need to be the best engineer in the room, but your team needs to believe you understand what they're doing. This is unlikely to be a good fit if you've fully transitioned to pure management and haven't touched technical work in years. A delegator, not a bottleneck. Your job is to build a team that makes good decisions without you - not to be the person all decisions flow through. You coach engineers toward answers rather than providing them. When you go hands-on, it's deliberate and time-bounded, not a default. This is unlikely to be a good fit if your instinct when a team struggles is to take over, if you find yourself becoming the access point for all requests, or if your team's output goes down when you're unavailable. This Role Is NOT - A pure technical architect role. The team has senior engineers. Your job is to make sure they're effective and growing, not to be the smartest person in every technical conversation. - A process manager. We have processes. Your job isn't to document them better - it's to lead the people running them and improve outcomes. - A stepping stone. We're looking for someone committed to people leadership as their primary craft - not someone who's considering moving back to IC or is ambivalent about managing people vs. building systems. - A reactive firefighter. We want someone who surfaces risk early and manages it proactively - not someone who thrives in chaos and sees every crisis as a badge of honor. - An AI skeptic in a leadership seat. We expect our engineering leaders to actively drive AI adoption on their teams, not wait to be convinced. Benefits - Rate: $120,000-$140,000 USD annually (contractor), depending on experience - Location: Fully remote - this role is built for remote-first leaders - Flexibility: Structured work hours with reasonable flexibility for life LawnStarter provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics. Ellipsis®: Executive Assistant (Remote, UK/EU, £38k-£43k/year)

Company Company not specified

Location not specified Published
Job description
Headquarters: Oxford, UK URL: https://getellipsis.com Description Ellipsis is emerging as a market leader in “GEO” for B2B technology companies. This is a high-impact, hands-on role in a fast-moving and ambitious agency. The transition to AI search has put a lot of the SEO industry on the back foot. Ellipsis has always been consultative/strategic in our approach, we started building AI search products in 2021 on GPT-2, and thus this has been a time for us to thrive. Today, we think we have a better understanding of AI search than almost anyone else. We have both the tracking product (built in-house), the data (~25 million AI answers for analysis, with more tracked weekly), and the execution end-to-end from strategy, to writing, to in-house design, to optimisation, and performance reporting. We're looking for an Executive Assistant to help our Founder and Managing Director, Alex, and our Chief of Staff, Anna, make the best possible use of their time, while ensuring important work across the business is prepared, coordinated and followed through. You'll provide day-to-day EA support to Alex and work closely with Anna on wider business matters. You will be the metronome that helps the business keep moving. Your work will be extremely high-impact, and you’ll be involved at a high level across the business. This is not a general operations role: your focus is excellent executive support, careful coordination and practical follow-through. This position can be broken down as follows: 60% support to Alex. 40% support to Anna on wider business priorities, including finance and people administration. Remote work requires trust, and in this role this will be absolutely critical. Trust is built over time, and accordingly your responsibilities will grow over time. Our hope is that you will prove indispensable to the business, but we understand it will take months to get to this place. Thus, below is a list of some of the responsibilities you’ll be able to grow into over time.   Support to Alex  Your most important responsibility is helping Alex maximise his time, protect his attention, reduce unnecessary context-switching, and stay focused on the work where he adds the most value. Calendar management: Own and manage Alex’s diary and calendar. Protect focused work and create space for strategic priorities. Make sensible scheduling decisions using your knowledge of Alex’s priorities, resolve clashes proactively, and account for preparation, travel time, location, time zones and the purpose of each meeting. Challenge or reorganise meetings where there is a better use of Alex’s time, and make sure Alex has the right preparation and information before important meetings. Inbox and communication: Assist the Managing Director with maintaining an organised and efficient inbox, including drafting replies or responding directly on his behalf at times. Effectively triage emails, understand possible courses of action, and present information to Alex in a way that lets him quickly provide a batch of responses that unblock you. Chase outstanding replies, actions and commitments, and build templates and systems for recurring email patterns so that important messages and obligations do not disappear. Briefings: Prepare a clear, concise morning briefing for Alex at the start of each day before he logs on (8.30am uk), giving him an overview of his schedule, priorities, deadlines, outstanding decisions and follow-up. Monitor his relevant communication channels, use judgement to identify what needs his attention, and make sure he is reminded of important to-dos, commitments and preparation ahead of time. These briefings are sometimes also required in the afternoon.  Day-to-day tasks: The remit of this role is not “follow this clearly defined process every time”, but “take this mostly finished project and figure out how to proactively take it to completion”. These tasks might touch project management, writing/editing, triaging information, posting on LinkedIn, research, drafting communications and ensuring action is taken. You’ll need to work out the information, stakeholders, decisions and follow-up required, rather than waiting for every task to arrive as a fully documented process. Meetings: Prepare for meetings, including ensuring slides, agendas and internal notes are prepared. Your goal is to ensure we utilise meeting time most effectively and are able to put our best foot forward. Use approved AI tools to capture and summarise meetings where appropriate, then check the output for accuracy and missing nuance. Extract decisions, actions, owners and deadlines; create follow-up tasks and communications; and make sure agreed actions are completed. This is about excellent preparation and follow-through, rather than traditional minute-taking as an end in itself. Travel: Coordinate complex travel for Alex. Prepare clear itineraries and manage flights, hotels, transport, meetings, dinners and contingencies. Occasional personal administration: This is a business-focused role and the overwhelming responsibility is with the business. You may be occasionally asked to take care of personal admin for Alex where this meaningfully protects his time.   Support to Anna and the wider business  You will report directly to Anna. Outside of supporting Alex, your role is to help her deliver wider team and business priorities. Finance administration: This is an important part of the role. Support Anna with Ellipsis's day-to-day finance administration. This includes filing expenses, collecting invoices and receipts, preparing client invoices for review, gathering freelancer and supplier invoices, preparing payment information for approval, and chasing late client payments. You'll keep records accurate and tidy, help manage the finance inbox, and flag discrepancies promptly. Anna and our accountants remain responsible for payroll, pensions, compliance and all accounting decisions - your role is to make sure the inputs are complete, accurate and on time. People and team support: Support Anna with people administration. Keep HR records up to date, prepare routine paperwork, help coordinate onboarding and offboarding, track key dates such as probation reviews and contract renewals, and support recruitment logistics - scheduling interviews, managing candidate communications and keeping the pipeline tidy. You'll also help create a positive remote-team experience through thoughtful internal communications, recognition, celebrations and team rituals. Company meet-ups: Organise Ellipsis’s company meet-ups, including researching and budgeting locations, booking travel and accommodation, and arranging restaurants, meeting rooms and activities. You’ll need to think carefully about cost, travel time, comfort, accessibility, dietary requirements and contingencies to create a productive and smooth trip for the whole team. Wider business priorities: Take on well-scoped work that helps Anna and the Senior Leadership Team move wider company priorities forward. B2spin: Digital Design Team Lead — Retention/CRM

Company Company not specified

Location not specified Published
Job description
Headquarters: Bulgaria URL: http://b2spin.com We are B2Spin, and we are dedicated to delivering the best Free-to-Play Social Casino and gaming experiences by creating captivating, engaging, and unique products that are accessible to everyone. We have built a team of talented professionals from all over the globe, who are working to continually improve the experiences of our players. We are not looking to just be part of the industry, but to revolutionize it.The RoleWe run the creative function for retention at a multi-brand iGaming company. That means high-volume, high-frequency output — emails, push notifications, in-app messages, onsite banners — produced for segmented player audiences across multiple brands, all at the same time. This is a marketing creative leadership role, not a product or UX design role. You will lead a team of Digital Designers producing retention marketing assets across four brands and multiple CRM channels — not app or product interfaces. The Design Team Lead owns the quality and consistency of that output. Not by reviewing everything personally, but by building the systems, standards, and team capability that make good work the default. This is as much an ops-and-systems role as it is a creative leadership role. If you're energized by turning "we eyeball it every time" into "we have a standard for that," this is the job.  What You Will OwnBrand systems that actually get usedOur brands are fragmented today. You'll build the documented visual systems — templates, component libraries, per-brand rules, practical "do this, not that" guidance — that designers reach for rather than work around. When the system is good, consistency stops being something we police and becomes the default.Repeatable production at scaleMultiple designers producing work across four brands and CRM channels need modular templates, clear briefing standards, and clean versioning. You'll build and maintain those foundations. Just as importantly, you'll convert the feedback you keep repeating into checklists and onboarding material — so nobody gives the same note twice.AI that produces on-brand results, not surprisesWe already use AI heavily; the results aren't predictable enough. You'll put structure around it: per-brand prompt libraries, locked reference styles, clear review checkpoints, and training on how to take a raw AI output and finish it to a genuinely on-brand standard.Quality that can be measuredYou'll define what "on-brand and high quality" means for each brand, track simple signals like first-pass approval rate and rework volume, and catch delivery or quality risks before they hit send dates. You'll also keep improving how the team works — processes, tools, handovers — without waiting to be asked.A team that feels clear and supportedRegular 1:1s, honest consistent feedback, and being the person designers come to when they're stuck. You'll monitor workload alongside the Traffic Manager, contribute to hiring, and make sure new designers land well and ramp fast.  What Success Looks LikeOur brands feel like systems, and the work looks consistent wherever it shows up.Designers work to shared standards, so the same feedback isn't going round in circles.Work ships with reliable quality and far less rework.AI is a dependable part of how we create, not a gamble. The team feels supported, knows what good looks like, and trusts their own judgement.  What We’re Looking ForA direct, easy communicator who does well in a fast-moving, remote team.5+ years of professional digital design experience, with a strong portfolio of digital work.A track record of building systems, such as templates, brand guidelines, component libraries, or repeatable processes, not just strong one-off work.Experience mentoring or supporting other designers; leadership is a big plus, not a must.A sharp eye for detail and the ability to give feedback that is clear, kind, and useful.Hands-on experience taming AI creative tools, or a strong point of view on how you would. Why you will love itYou'll thrive in our high-pace, high-growth environment where your curiosity directly shapes million-dollar decisions. Every insight you uncover translates into real business impact, while you build and lead a team that thinks strategically about the brands they own. You'll have the freedom to innovate your approach to analysis while working at the cutting edge of gaming analytics and machine learning.Equal Opportunities StatementWe hire based on skills, drive, and ideas — nothing else. Your background, gender, age, race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, religion, neurodiversity, or educational path will never be a barrier to joining us. We also welcome candidates from non-traditional career journeys and value diverse perspectives that challenge conventional thinking.Diversity fuels our innovation, collaboration, and growth, and we're committed to creating an environment where everyone can contribute their best work and thrive.
